Happy Easter

Easter Decoration

The Easter is coming very soon, so in my post today I want to show you the typical decoration we can find in the USA and Canada (that is where I live) and at the same time I want to share with your a little bit of their history.

Here during these previous Easter´s days we can find almost everywhere Easter decorations such as colorful basket in different shapes, chocolate eggs with colorful wrapping paper, chocolate rabbits, rabbit ears etc...

Basically the decoration is focused on two things: 1) Eggs 2) Rabbits.

And why eggs and rabbits and not other animal?
In just a second I am going to explain the history and how it became a tradition. Just keep reading.

Easter Eggs.
Easter eggs are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or Springtime.
In Christianity, they symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus. Since an egg shape is similar to the stone of a tomb. For Christians is a reminder that Jesus rose from the grave, and that those who believe will also experience eternal life.

Eggs in general, were a traditional symbol of fertility.
The practice of decorating eggshell is coming from hundreds of years ago.
Although the tradition was to paint chicken eggs, now they are substituted by chocolate eggs or plastic eggs. These can be hidden for children to find on Easter morning, which might be left by the Easter Bunny. They may be put in a basket too.

Easter Bunny
The Easter Bunny or Easter Rabbit is a character depicted as a rabbit bringing Easter eggs. The Easter Bunny is sometimes represented with clothes. In legend, the creature carries colored eggs in his basket, candy and sometimes also toys to the homes of children, so it has some similarities to Santa Claus, as they both bring gifts to children on the night before their respective holiday.

Rabbits like eggs are fertility symbols.Since birds lay eggs and rabbits give birth both in the early spring, they became symbols of fertility of the earth.

Ideas for crafting our own Easter decoration

Golden eggs

Golden eggs
Golden eggs are a great option for decorating the house in these days if we are not a big fan of colorful things at home.
We can create them by ourselves.

Eggs decorated with wool caps
Eggs with polka dots, painted manually
Eggs decorated with braids
Eggs decorated with cross-stich
Eggs wrapped with newspaper and colorful rabbits with cotton tails.
Eggs decorated with small paper flowers
Eggs decorated with flowers from a paper napkin
Eggs and plants

We can use an empty egg shell for setting a small plant inside of it.Then we can set it everywhere we want, even in a piece of their own box.
I think is great idea and very cheap.

Eggs and candles

This idea is very similar to the last one, but in this case instead of a small plant, we want to use a small candle.
We can choose different colors, and it will give to the living room a fun look.

Vase and candles

Frames

With any frame we have at home, we can create a very cute decoration by handing in the middle some colorful eggs. Then we can set it on our front door and I am sure the neighbors will envy our door.

Rabbits and bottles
With a Coca Cola plastic bottle vase, a colorful paper cut in egg shape and some small colorful papers we
can create a cute basket where we can keep our chocolate eggs.
It´s a very economical option.
Here the idea is same as last picture, but in this case we are decoration the outside with rabbit faces.
Same idea but in this case we are decorating a whole bottle and we don´t use it as a nest.
For a party is a great idea, i am sure the guests will be more than happy to drink from there.
Easter sweets
Eggs made with sugar
